Sports Lab Women’s Football Cup – GCC 1st Edition

The inaugural Sports Lab Women’s Football Cup, organized in collaboration with the Qatar Women’s Sports Committee, marked a significant milestone as the first region-wide female football tournament in Qatar’s history. This groundbreaking event brought together approximately 100 talented female football players from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Kuwait, underscoring Qatar’s pivotal role in promoting women’s sports participation, particularly in the lead-up to the FIFA World Cup.

Representatives from four GCC countries—Super Soccer Team (Bahrain), Sports Lab Team (Qatar), Aloyoun Sport Center (Kuwait), and Almarred Club (Saudi Arabia)—competed fiercely in the tournament.

The Super Soccer team emerged triumphant, securing the championship title after a hard-fought victory over the Sports Lab team in the final match, with a scoreline of “2-0”. The Kuwaiti team clinched third place. Renowned sports commentator Ashraf Tawfiq enriched the tournament’s atmosphere with his expert commentary, captivating the large audience in attendance.

Mrs. Lulwa Al Marri, Head of the Women’s Sports Committee, highlighted the significance of the tournament as part of Qatar’s promotional efforts for the upcoming World Cup, emphasizing its role in promoting women’s football academies across the Arab Gulf region.
The tournament garnered praise from Mrs. Fatma Al-Shahwani, Founder of the Sports Lab Center and President of the Tournament, who expressed pride and gratitude for its success in advancing women’s sports development in the region. Through this championship, pivotal objectives were achieved, including the promotion of women’s roles in sports, the cultivation of sports diplomacy among Gulf nations, and the provision of a platform for young female players to showcase their talent and enhance their skills.

Amal Alkeldei, Director of the Sport Lab Center, and Vice-Chairman of the Championship’s Technical Committee, expressed satisfaction with the event’s success and reiterated its aim to promote sporting values, raise awareness about the importance of sports participation, and encourage women of all ages to engage in sports.
